Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy should refrain from talking fish oil supplements or eating fatty fish while they are being treated with chemotherapy. A few years ago, the research group of Emile Voest from the Netherlands Cancer Institute discovered that fatty acids which are also present in fish oil can make tumors resistant to chemotherapy. The same research group now shows that these fatty acids are indeed released in the blood when people take fish oil supplements or eat certain types of fatty fish. These new results were published in the journal JAMA Oncology on April 2nd.

On the other end of the disease spectrum, GSE leaves healthy cells alone entirely.
DT2219, a new bispecific ligand-directed diphtheria toxin, was found to be safe and clinically effective in a small group of patients with relapsed/refractory B-cell malignancies, according to phase I clinical trial data published in Clinical Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.
“In this phase I trial, we found a safe dose of the drug that has biological activity,” said Daniel Vallera, PhD, professor of radiation oncology and director of the section on molecular cancer therapeutics at Masonic Cancer Center in the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. “Of the 10 evaluable patients, two of them responded. We are planning a phase II trial with this drug. It will focus on giving more cycles of treatment, which we believe will dramatically enhance the response rates.”
